Who needs a Canadian eTA?
Many visa-exempt foreign nationals need an eTA to fly to, or connect through, Canada. Some travellers from visa-required countries may also qualify under specific conditions. Use the official entry document checker for your circumstances.
How long does an eTA last?
An eTA is normally valid for up to five years, or until the linked passport expires, whichever is sooner. It can be used for multiple short visits. The length of each permitted stay is decided on arrival.
How much does it cost?
The Government of Canada charges CAD $7 when you apply directly on Canada.ca. Fees charged by private assistance services are separate from the official government fee.
How quickly will I receive a decision?
IRCC says most applications are approved within minutes, but some take several days or need more documents. We cannot guarantee approval or processing times. Apply before booking travel.
